Holi is one of the major festivals of Hindus, which reminds us of the epic story of King Hiranyakashyap , his sister Holika and his son Prahlad . We are all accustomed with this story, but for those who don’t know this story, I would just brief it out.
Once there was mighty king named Hiranyakashyap, who worshipped and preached demonism but his son Prahlad , was a keen worshiper of hindu god, Lord Vishnu , despite of the fact that Hiranyakashyap hated seeing Prahlad worship Lord Vishu, Prahlad continued worshipping him. Hiranyakashyap tried numerous ways to stop Prahlad from worshipping Lord Vishnu but all his attempts were in vein. So his called his sister Holika, who had a boon that she could not get burnt off in fire, to take Prahlad in her lap and sit in fire, so that Prahlad get burnt. But, the destiny was known by none, which was in favour of the virtuous, hence, instead of Prahlad getting burnt, Holika, inspite of her boon, got burnt in that fire. And this marked the creation of the festival HOLI (named after Holika), to mark the victory of the virtuous over the evil.
Well, while describing this story, I remembered the days of school, when we were asked to write a paragraph on Holi and we used to described the same story in our exams. And as a child, we used to appreciate that story, but with the time as we grew we got focused more on celebration with colors rather than on the values. As a child we were taught to learn and focus on the values and celebrate the festival with real joy.
But alas, the more we are growing, we are getting, so called, modernized, we don’t care of the values right? These are all old fashioned, and we are modern, huh!! We don’t need moral science!!
We are growing in age and our morals are going down.
Many people celebrate Holi to have get drunken, taking bhang and wandering doing shits all around, making a mess of the environment, and disturbing the people around them. Why? I mean is it so necessary to get intoxicated.
Even there are many, who take the benifit of covering there face with colors and do crime!! Taking selfies and showing a false happy life has become a trend of the present day.
Why??Why are we polluting the pious culture of our society?
Now, people will say that, this person has got to do no work, she just wander around sharing a same piece of gyan on every occasion, neither she celebrates herself nor she let any other person enjoy the festival !! If I am not wrong, majority of people do think this only, right!!
But, honestly speaking, I just can’t stop myself from sharing the right way of thinking, when I see people getting indulged in wrong practices. To lead a happy life, it’s important that we understand that, happiness is not found in just gathering or taking selfies or any other things, instead its found deep inside us. And the moment we understand it, we can find ourselves surrounded with happiness. Now, I am in no way saying that playing with colors is bad, it’s good if it can take you out from your daily boring schedule and give some relaxation. But, the thing is that, just play with the colours only, don’t be a chameleon, don’t destroy the nature and it’s being, and don’t get detached from the basis of our beings, our ethics and culture!!
Celebrate holi with full enthusiasm, burn the devil inside you, and a hope that may these colors fill your lives with the colors of indradhanusha.
HAPPY HOLI!
KEEP READING, KEEP GROWING!
